			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>So why have a blog instead of using the tried and true TeacherWeb?  The question really might be &#8211; why not? </p>
<p>Blogs provide interaction between the reader and the writer.   The comment area allows the readers to ask questions or give feedback on the post.  Comments should be set to be moderated before they are allowed to appear on the page to avoid having personal info posted for all to read.</p>
<p>Blogs can be subscribed to so that any time a new entry is made the subscribers are notified.  No need to fill out a separate form to make that happen.  <em><strong>Caution</strong>:  Emails are not sent out instantly, there is a time delay so test this out before relying on it.</em></p>
<p>Entries are listed chronologically and can be tagged for key words so the reader can easily navigate to the topics they are interested in.</p>
<p>Files:  Space to house the files can be considerable larger than offered by TeacherWeb at this point.  You can also post video and audio files rather easily for your students to access.  Using plug-ins like drop.io you can also provide a way for students to turn in work to you online, without worrying about what email the work was sent to you in.</p>
<p> The look can be customized and be as colorful or as simple as you would like.  The sidebars can be customized to contain just the info you want including pictures from Flickr, feeds from new sites, etc.</p>

If you have a moment , could you take a look a look around and tell me what else you would like to see or not see? This blog is what I would use for my job in place of Teacher Web.</p>
<p>Benefits of this type of situation:</p>
<ul>
<li>we are self-hosting so we can have control over many aspects, such as the total size limits for uploads</li>
<li>the address would be easy to remember for parents</li>
<li>info is search-able</li>
</ul>
<p>What are your initial thoughts on this? Any feedback would be welcomed as I am trying something new and am in uncharted waters for me.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The purpose of this page is to post the latest info on campus about technology.  Beginning next year I also intend to spotlight different teachers for various efforts in the realm of technology.  This includes:</p>
<p><strong>Teacher Site of the Week.</strong>  Who has a cool teacher site for communication with students and parents?  it could be a blog, a wiki, a TeacherWeb, etc.    We would like to recognize that effort by choosing a page to highlight each week and rewarding that teacher with a small token, a certificate, and an entry into a monthly gift card drawing.   You can nominate a fellow teacher at any time!</p>
<p><strong>Technology All-Star Team:</strong>  Who is doing something cool?  Who stretched themselves with technology farther than anyone else? We would like to share what people are doing on campus with those who you may not work with directly everyday.  I get my best ideas from other people. The token of appreciation in this category is still under research.  Ideas?</p>
